Drying

Drying is the removal of moisture from air or materials. In water damage restoration, removing visible standing water and drying moisture retained in building materials are separate steps.

How progress can be documented

Ask which materials and locations will be monitored, what readings will be recorded and what conditions will support the decision to stop drying. A surface that feels dry does not provide the same information as an assessment of the affected assembly.

Plan repairs after the moisture work

The source of the water, material condition and access all affect the scope. Discuss which materials can remain, whether concealed areas need evaluation and when replacement finishes can be installed. A proposed duration should be reviewed as conditions change rather than treated as a guarantee.

The EPA moisture guide explains why prompt attention to wet materials matters. Learn about mitigation and restoration.
