Potable water is water suitable for drinking. Clear appearance or lack of odor does not establish that water meets that description.
What this means at your property
A supply-water source can be described separately from water after it has contacted building materials or other substances. During a service interruption or contamination event, use instructions from the water provider or public authorities rather than judging suitability yourself.
Does cleanup make a drinking-water system ready to use?
Cleaning a room and evaluating the water supply are different tasks. Ask who is responsible for plumbing or water-quality follow-up and retain any notices, test results or service instructions relevant to return to use.
