A report of indoor dust, smoke or an odor begins an investigation but does not establish a specific pollutant. Different sources call for different sampling or control decisions, and some concerns can be addressed by locating an obvious source.
What should a proposed test answer?
Ask which substance is being measured, why that measurement is appropriate and how the result will change the work. A broad “air test” description is less useful than a stated question and a clear interpretation.
