A smoke stain is a visible discoloration associated with smoke exposure. The mark may involve deposited residue, a changed finish or both.

What this means at your property

A wall can remain discolored after some residue is removed, while another surface may appear cleaner without all affected layers being addressed. Appearance is one part of evaluating the work, not a complete measure of the condition.

Should a stained surface be painted immediately?

Ask for assessment and appropriate preparation first. The proposal should explain residue treatment, any finish damage and the reason for repainting or replacement, so a new coating does not merely conceal an unresolved condition.
