Pressure washing uses a pressurized water stream to clean a surface. Power washing often refers to a process using heated water, although terminology varies by provider.

What this means at your property

The suitability of either method depends on the substrate, finish, joints and residue. Water directed at a vulnerable seam can enter an assembly, while an aggressive method can alter the surface being cleaned.

What should a proposal specify?

Ask for the intended process, material compatibility, protection of adjoining areas and handling of runoff. Discuss a suitable test area and the manufacturer’s care guidance before treatment of roofing, painted finishes or delicate masonry.
