Infrared thermal imaging produces an image based on infrared radiation from surfaces, commonly displayed as apparent temperature differences.
What this means at your property
A cooler patch near a ceiling leak can help direct an investigation, but temperature patterns can also reflect insulation, airflow or other conditions. A thermal image does not directly photograph water inside a wall or measure the moisture content of hidden material.
How should an image support a repair decision?
Ask what observations or moisture measurements were used to investigate the pattern. Keep the image location, date and interpretation with the report so a color difference is not mistaken for a confirmed diagnosis.
