Remove and reset means temporarily removing an existing item and reinstalling that same item. It differs from removal and replacement, where a new item is supplied.
A practical example
Trim may need to be taken off to reach an affected area behind it. If it can be retained, the scope may call for setting that trim back after the underlying work. Its condition and how it was installed affect whether reuse is practical.
What to clarify in an estimate
Identify the item and quantity, who stores it during work and whether refinishing, fasteners or adjustments are included. Ask how damage discovered during removal would be documented and how a replacement would be approved if the original cannot be reused. An allowance to reset an item should not be assumed to include buying a new one.
See construction services and scope of work.
