Mitigation is work intended to limit damage or its consequences. A mitigation scope should identify the problem being controlled and the tasks selected for that purpose.
What this means at your property
For a leak, the project may involve source correction, water extraction, evaluation of wet materials and drying. The restoration contract should make clear which of those tasks it includes and which belong to a plumber or another specialist.
Does mitigation include rebuilding?
Not automatically. Ask where the immediate work ends and whether drywall, flooring, painting or other reconstruction is separately estimated. Keep the completion records for the mitigation phase available to the trades performing repairs.
