Kinetic energy is energy associated with motion. Moving air, flowing water and flying debris all carry kinetic energy.

What this means at your property

During a storm, moving debris can affect a roof or exterior surface. The resulting damage depends on the object, speed, angle and material struck, so the name of the weather event alone does not describe the condition of the building.

What should be documented after an impact?

Record the location and visible changes from a safe position. Ask the inspector to distinguish observed impact damage from wear or another cause, and to identify any concealed areas requiring further evaluation.
