A grease fire is a fire involving cooking fats or oils. After the fire is out, the work may include assessing soot, oily residue, affected appliances and nearby cabinets or finishes.
During an active fire
If you cannot act safely, leave and call 911 from outside. Never put water on burning grease or carry a burning pan. The U.S. Fire Administration explains precautions for cooking and small pan fires.
After the property is released
Record which rooms were affected and whether water or an extinguisher was used. Ask the restoration team to separate cleaning, appliance assessment and building repairs in the proposed scope. Do not assume that wiping a visible mark resolves damage inside a cabinet, wall or appliance.
