Gas is a state of matter that expands to occupy its available space. In building discussions, identify the particular gas rather than using the term as a diagnosis.
What this means at your property
Fuel gas, water vapor and gases associated with combustion have different sources and require different responses. Some cannot be reliably detected by smell. A report of an unusual odor should describe the location and circumstances without assuming the substance.
What if a fuel-gas leak is suspected?
Leave the area and contact emergency services or the gas utility from a safe location. Do not operate switches or attempt a leak investigation. A restoration visit does not replace the emergency response.
